This blog page is about things we notice when we are out and about.  Some things we love, some we don't, and sometimes things we just don't understand (maybe you can help us figure them out!).  In Los Angeles if you keep your eyes and ears open you can see, hear, or learn something new every day.  With its mix of locals, tourists, and transplants from all over the world, LA's mingling of cultures is an amazing experience!

West LA's Expansion Boom

With the arrival of the Expo line (currently under phase 2 construction- Culver City to Santa Monica) and the tech boom along the Jefferson Corridor, Venice and Playa del Rey and Playa Vista, West LA is set to get even more busy.

Developers are trying to manage and take advantage of this boom by building along the expo line and also building "up" as in taller denser buildings located near where the people actually work.  The idea is to create a more dense environment while trying to lessen the already crazy traffic. If people can walk to the expo from their homes and get to work without having to walk too far (nobody walks in LA...) or without having to catch the bus (which although the bus is great is not the first choice of most people) is really going to benefit everybody!

Living in a community that is built close to where you work, and built in a way that is pedestrian friendly, encourage people to actually walk or ride their bikes to work!  You can see good examples of these types of development in the Playa Del Rey area.  Several self contained very nice communities down the Jefferson Corridor are done really well.  They have they're own restaurants, coffee shops and even dog parks all built into the condos/ apts, all while being really close to big tech companies.  Its just to bad this area is only serviced by 1 bus line- but then again maybe these companies will bus their employees in like in San Francisco.
